Q: Had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotic AVELOX for recurring pneumonia

Hi Peeps, It's been another fun week in the battle with illness. Friday my Doctor decided that the pneumonia I had in late August was back again. I had to go back on the prednisone and schedule a lung biopsy. My Primary also put me on the antibiotic, AVELOX. I had recieved this drug during my 14 day hospital stay which was one month ago. Within one hour of taking the first pill, I could hardly breathe, my face was burning and my head felt like it was going to explode. I had another trip in the ambulance (thank God for these people) and now I have a ruptured tendon in my arthritic knee. It seems I was building anti-bodies to this powerful drug through the whole first 10 days of therepy. When I took it again, my body went into a toxic reaction. They took me off the Avelox and told me to contact my primary, but it was a Holiday weekend. I still have the terrible cough and am only on the steroids now, but my knee is a mess. I am now wondering if the antibiotc even WORKED the first time because the chest tightness never left and the symptoms returned 10 days after stopping the first steroid course. I think the pneumonia never left me. Has anyone ever had this kind of reaction to an antibiotc or any other drug? They say if I take it again, I could die. Yikes! Anyone ever heard of this? God Bless, Katkan
