Q: What can an MS specialist do for me

I went to my neuro and he says that I have all the systems of MS.  I had one instance of optic neuritis and one inactive lesion at the moment.  In other words not enough to diagnose me clinically definitively.  It's been a long time in pain to say the least the muscle pain and fatigue among others is the worst.  So he says it's time to see an MS specialist at Georgetown University Medical Center.  I'm frustrated as to what this specialist can do for me what my regular neuro cannot.

Thanks,

Faith

Hi Unsure,

A specialist recommends a more focused specialist — why, and why now?

KJ gave a really good answer from experience, limbo therapy programs.

Perhaps your neuro is looking for a new set of eyes with a focused skill set to take you out of limbo or to recommend a new direction.  An MS specialist keeps up with MS and knows new practices a general neurologist may not know because there are so many neurological conditions.

This is a good thing. Good luck.

The MS specialist may be more knowledgeable about medications or therapies you could start before a formal diagnosis is given.
