Q: Second opinion. Should I believe my neurologist?

My neurologist says I definitely have MS, but my lumbar puncture results were normal.  I'm not sure I believe I have MS, and I may be taking Copaxone for nothing.  I guess I should go for a second opinion.  What info, besides my MRIs, should I give to the 2nd neurologist?

Hi chipmunk,

I am sorry you are having a hard time believing your neurologist.  I think a good and trusting relationship with your doctor is very important. MS is not an easy diagnosis to hear, especially without firm positive results.

A second opinion never hurts. Find a neurologist that specializes in MS. Take your MRI, lumbar puncture results, and any other tests you may have taken.Tell the doctor when you started taking Copaxone and any differences you noticed.    Also, try to list all of your symptoms, including the earliest one you remember. Have a list of any possible questions ready.

Good luck.
