Q: DOES REBIF CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN?

i HAVE BEEN ON REBIF FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND SEEM TO HAVE GAINS 25 POUNDS AND AM EATING LESS. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS SIDE EFFECT? OR IS THIS WEIGHT GAIN FROM SOMETHING ELSE. i HAVE TRIED TO STAY AWAY FROM MEDS THAT CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN BECAUSE i AM SLIGHTLY OVERWEIGHT. DOCTORS SAY OBESE IN THEIR EYES, BUT NOT BY MINE. I TELL PEOPLE WHAT I WAY , THERE LIKE NO SA. i CARRY MY WEIGHT WELL. BUT

IF REBIF IS GONNA CAUSE ME TO GAIN WEIGHT I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE TO ONE THAT ISNT A WEIGHT GAINER.  ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Thank You for sharing.....now I know I am not the only one with weight gain on rebif.  My physician claims it is due to my lack of activity and over eating.  I am eating a lot of vegetables, very little meat and on several occasions, I have had no appetite and have not eaten anything for 4 days, just water.  Yet in 10 months, I put on 37 lbs.  I questioned my MS physician to check my thyroid and I am informed by his secretary that it is fine.  I am trying to check to see if rebif has a steroid in it?  If so, that could be the cause.

Again, Thank you for sharing......

Don't ask your neurologist to do any testing, ask your primary care doc. to do it. Check for low/even on the low side of B-12 and thyroid/hypothyroid tests. I have many more things I can say about the whole M.S. thing and have been sitting on my hands for years about this and much more than that. Check for digestion problems (food enzymes), when taking enzymes you must have certain enzymes included in the pill/capsule. If anyone can do thier own research on certain subjects, please do so because I can promise you won't be disappointed. Never take medication because any doctor or (specialist) tells you too. Don't assume that because they say you have M.S. that you do. Just because you might have lesion in the brain, does not and I repeat, does not mean you have M.S. also just because you might have protein in your spinal fluid does not mean you have M.S.  I have alot more info if anyone decides they want some. I stopped taking Rebif at 1 1/2 years because I suspected some things and I wasn't wrong. It took alot of research time and a want to get well. I did not want to end up in a wheel chair, and I'm not now but I would have been in one if I kept taking those drugs. Hope this can help someone.

I have brain lesions and a level of 11 o bands on spinal tap. They say it's MS. I took beta seron for a couple of months. Yuk. Now the docwants me to start tysabri. I don't want to. Still in shock from diagnosis. Besides, I don't think any of this crap works. I believe in dietary adjustments. Which enzymes do you take? Reply

I too have gained weight since I've started taking REBIF.  Dr says it isn't because of the meds, however I dropped down to 1200 calories a day and am working out 4 days a week.  My stomach is always bloated and I feel miserable all of the time.  I have since been off the meds for 5 weeks, and am slowly starting to feel somewhat better.  I also didn't have any symptoms before I started the REBIF - 6 weeks in and I had numbness all down the right side - again since I've been off the meds the feeling is starting to come back.  Sometimes meds aren't for everyone :)
