Wow!  You have definitely hit upon something here.  I have found information on what you are talking about and about Dr. Tucker but they just are not saying what the official name of this treatment is.  Let me do some more investigating but in the meantime I will give you what I have found thus far.

The doctor's name is Doctor William Tucker from Biomolecular Pharma Inc. and here is his profile.

Here is a blurb about his research:

"Another research project Dr. Tucker is working on is an anti- viral agent that crosses the blood brain barrier and prevents the replication of the measles virus in the cerebral spinal fluid which stabilizes the multiple sclerosis patient from further neurologic progression."

This is truly some exciting stuff here!

Also found this news article about what this doctor is working towards.

Perhaps others can chime in with what they know or have found out about this latest research.  I think we are living in an exciting time where they just may find the remedy for our disease.  Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Thank you so much for bringing this important research to light.  I am sure everyone here will wish to read about this.

Keep us updated on anything else you may find out.

I've heard the same news.  My question about this is why has it not made more of a media splash?  This is huge.  And yet if you do a search online no one recognizes it.  There are very few articles talking about it.  I am worried that either people think this isn't worth reporting on.  Or, as my conspiracy theory brain goes to work, there's too much invested in people HAVING MS that a cure is out of the question.  Frankly it worries me a lot that there's not much in the news about this.

CBC National news ran a story on this on Monday but no media follow up after. Everyone too busy with Christmas. But they talked about an increased study size to be done in the USA, and something about Chicago...sorry dont remember much more.

My sister Margo was interviewed along with Dr. Tucker for a segment on CTV news a couple of weeks or so ago. Dr. Tucker is confident that he as a cure for MS and it does in fact involve the measles virus. He claims that the disease can be halted, although any damage done by the disease may be irreversable, but the damage that is, does reverse. He had done a trial at John Hopkins I think, and two of his patients were in fact legally blind and now have their drivers license's back. He is looking for funding to continue trials in Canada, and I wish I had the money to give him. Margo has had MS for about 8-9 years, and I have another sister Kris, who has had it for almost 15 years. We are very hopeful about this new treatment. Reply

Has anyone heard anything further on this?  I understand Dr Tucker is waiting for funding.  Is it possible for interested people to lobby the government?

Hi there, I am new here. But I did see the news cast on this and almost fell out of my chair with excitment....but unfortunately my excitment has diminished, as there has been nothing at all on this subject ever since.

Has anyone else heard or seen anything else on this. I expected to see follow ups on this, newspaper articles, etc, but nothing.

I really want this to be true, but I am wondering now the validitiy of it all...

Have a great day

Hi there, it is me again...I did some research on the drug, and this is what I found.

the drug being used is Azathioprine.  This drug has been around for some time now. It is an immunosuppressive, and has been used to treat MS patients for some time.

However this drug when used in conjunction with (MV - E) Edmonston strain and (MV-H) Halle strain, favorable results were achieved where by it halted MS preventing it from progressing any further, and in fact, retracting some damages that have been done as a result of the disease.  Both of these strains are related to the Measle virus.

This information has been posted in the Henry Ford Medical Journal.

That is all I have for now, but I am going to continue to plug along - to determine where the research is right now, and why the announcement of this discovery has been so silent

Regard

Gary

Wish I knew more about this- my daughter  got the measles vaccine when she was about 13-began having double vision at 15 & other smptoms. Now at 45 is totally handicapped! She also had measles a couple of times when she was younger- Reubella(?).

Thank you Gary, but I'm starting to wonder. If the drug does do what they say, why would it not be talked about? Or why would it take so long to get funding for such a miracle? Well, I guess allwe can do is wait and be hopeful. Have a good day.

I actually got to hear Dr. Tucker speak last night in Charlottetown.  If what he claims is correct, & we all hope it is, this discovery could be huge.  He claims this new non-toxic, no side effects drug can halt the progression of MS by treating or eliminating the measles virus.

There was a neurologist at the meeting as well and he raised some concerns.  His main concern was that at this point Dr. Tucker's claims are unproven.  Seven people were tried with  a form of this drug in 1969.  That's 40 years ago.

Dr. Tucker hopes to get funding for this clinical trial as early as this summer.  I'd say it's something to keep a very close eye & ear on.

Hello there and good morning.  Further to the last post, I reviewed the research paper of Dr. Tucker again for further clarification.

He originally did a study of the drug Azathioprine in the late 60's, to determine it's effects on people who have MS.  A few people at that time were used to determine the results of this study.

Then in the late 1990's, the research of this drug continued, however this time, the drug Azathioprine was tested in conjunction with the MC-E and the MV-H strains, and it was determined that when used in conjuction, it did not only assist in the treament of MS, it also halted the MS.

During this study that began in the 90's, he used people who had MS, and it was the use of these people that he determined his outstanding results.  In one case, as mentioned on the CTV braodcast, he makes reference to two people who suffered from legal blindness, who were able to regain their vision enough in order to obtain their driver's licence.

This reversal of the MS disease was not the result of the research done in the 60's, rather, the results of the combination drug research that began in the 90's, and likely continued into the 2000's. As far as I could determine, the research continued into 2007, at which time his paper was written in the Henry Ford Medical Journal, and then went public in December 2008.

Having said all that, I am unsure as to why this information was not splashed all over the media, because if this is the case, it is huge?????

Have a great day

Gary

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this report on Bill Tucker is a perfect example of why news people need to check their facts before they start instilling false hope in people.

Bill and his wife Vivian are nice enough people who are looking for ways to fill their retirement years. Unfortunately, Bill is not a researcher and he has a tendency to see what he wants to see rather than the data in front of him.

There has been no further news because this drug has been around forever and the results he talks about from a trial four decades ago cannot be replicated. Measles does not play a causative role in MS and any benefits from the drug are due to its immunosuppressive properties. In fact, give this drug to a person with active measles and you will kill them. Period.

Since this misinformed news release, all respectable scientists have condemned the deplorable actions of CBC in allowing this to be touted as a new and novel therapy. Such reports just cause pain once the truth is known. Mount Allison, the university with which Dr Tucker is affiliated as adjunct have retracted their press release and CBC will not follow up because they have egg on their face from doing the initial story.

Sorry, but this is a red herring.

You need to check your facts as Dr. Tucker most certainly a researcher. My guess would be you are affiliated with the MS Society and do not want a cure in place because you would loose all of the government funding you are currently getting. Really using a fear tactic to scare hopeful people away from this drug is truly a cheap shot. This drug does not kill, it cures. Reply

My name is John,

I have read the latest response on Tuesday Jan 27th and was saddend to hear that

Dr. Tucker's research has been condemned as a red herring. I had high hopes for a

viable cure as I have two friends that have advancing forms of the disease. I also

hace been in contact with Vivain Tucker and she claims that there has been a smear

campaign against Dr. Tucker and his efforts to bring this drug to market. Has anyone disproved that a combination of the two drugs mentioned in the earlier responses is what achives the desired results? This novel combination reminds me of the breakthrough that was achived in combating AIDS with a drug cocktail that was rushed through approval to give patients a way to live with the disease for many years. I only hope that this combination is being carefully examined before being

thoroughly discounted as a "red herring". So many others have been decried as

being wrong only to be proved correct years later in their hypothesis. I would like

to see whether the results can be replicated today with a repeat of that treatment.

So many have so much to gain if thje naysayers are proved wrong in their assumptions.

Hi there, John - thanks for your post.  the previous post to yours - the red herring one, refers again to the drug being around for a long time - which is correct.  But the testing with this drug plus the two strains that I mentioned in my last post - started in the late 90's and went into the 2000's....AND is continuing today as I write this!!

So whether or not there is any credience to this all, who only knows, however when I was with my neurologist the other day, i did mention this drug, and he did mention that he knew of the research, but that they might have jumped the gun abit, as it is still in Phase 2 testing, and that is why the additional funding is required so that the phase 2 testing can be completed.  He did not comment on the "cure" aspect of this, wondering if it was just another treatment method apposed to an actual cure.  He did direct my attention to the research that is being conducted on Compath 1H - and it is nearing Phase 3 of the study. He advised that this drug holds much promise, as it has many advantages over the DMT's that we are using today.

He also mentioned that there is so much research going on right now, and some of it is really close to being explosive discoveries, and feels that there will be a few more people coming forth before studies are completed, so that they are on top of the list of people who are looking for recognition.

So I would not put Dr. Tuckers research in the trash can just as yet, back burner yes, but trash can - no!

Have a great day

Gary

I have also done a fair amount of research regarding Dr. Tucker's magic pill and sadly have been very disappointed to discover his claim to a cure is

much exaggerated. I have been in contact with MS National and Atlantic, a number of Canadian MS Research facilities, Mount Allison University and have received correspondence from Dr. Tucker himself as well as attending a lecture he gave.  I have little confidence that Dr. Tucker understands the MS and when he was challenged (at the talk I attended) by a neurologist he was unable to respond intelligently to the concerns that were raised and I found him to be defensive.

I see this gentleman as someone playing on the venerability of those suffering with this disease and being a member of that group find his whole approach quite offensive.

If he does indeed have a cure for MS - he is far from proving it with the research he has done thus far - please remember that one of his claims was to have cured blindness in 2 of his subjects - those of us with MS are quite familiar with Optic Neuritis................it does cause blindness and it frequently resolves itself. - That is not a miracle that can be attributed to Dr. Tucker - that is a miracle that can be attributed to the human body doing it's best to repair itself.

To the best of my knowledge Dr. Tuckers research is not recognized, supported or endorsed by any MS Research Facility or National MS Advocacy group - it seems odd to me that the man with the cure can not get support from experts in the field.  And I also pose the question that if Dr. Tucker has had a magic cure for the past 40 years why on earth would he "sit" on it for all this time????

My daughter lost sight the 6th of April in the right eye and with 3 intravenous treatments it has come back.  She has no depth perception.  On May 7 the left eye went blind and she had 3 more treatments.  As of today, July 3, no sign of sight.  Has anyone gone totally blind like my daughter?

check it out for yourselves instead of listening to those who may have alternative reasons to yea or nay him.  For those of us with Primary Progressive MS and absolutely NO treatment from the neurologists, will grasp at all possibilities.  I attended a talk Dr. Tucker gave to our MS group in Charlottetown last winter and was intrigued by the possibilities he spoke about.  His intent at that time was to have Island wide clinical trials started by June.  Not possible to do without the support of a neurologist.  Instead of slagging Dr. Tucker's work, I only wish we had one doctor who would step up to the plate and agree to run the trials.  Then and only then, would we know the truth.  According to Dr. Tucker, the American MS Society and the Federal Drug Association are on board and waiting for him to take his drug to the States.  Figures.
