Q: Double Vision, Palsy, and MS

Hi, I'm in limbo. I've been diagnosed with "white matter disease" and associated intention tremor. I had an MRI and CT scan with dye (four years ago) that indicated "bright active lesions". A lumbar puncture came back normal. Now I have a problem with double vision. My neurologist says it appears to be sixth nerve palsy. He is ordering another MRI. My question concerns double vision and this kind of palsy. I have read that it "can" be associated with MS. In your experience is it a common symptom? I'm a 52 year old male.Thanks.

KJ,

I am sorry you are experiencing these symptoms and hope you get some solid answers from your neurologist.  Keep pushing until you do.  In the meantime, the answer to your question is yes, many people with MS do experience vision problems, and double vision is one of them.  Here is an article from The National Multiple Sclerosis Society about it.  I hope it helps.

Also, if you need to consult with an opthamologist, please make sure she/he has experience with Multiple Sclerosis.

Good luck to you,

Cathy
