Hi Becky,

Welcome to the MS community at HealthCentral.  When people use the phrase "latter stages", it is a bit too vague to know what exactly you want to know.

Are you asking about Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS)?  It is common that patients who have Relapsing Remitting MS for years may develop SPMS.  Patients who developing SPMS eventually see less inflammatory relapses and more disability related to brain atrophy and lesion damage.

If you want to know what complications may develop, here is a similar question which has many, many different responses you may find helpful.

Please reach out again if there is something else we can help with.
