Monday, July 11, 2011 Clare McGunnigal asks

Q: long term history osteopenia restless legs ++++ mother had CREST uncle had MS Recent 3weeks ago began to sleep more than usual,never sleep during the day but started sleeping 3 -6 hrs daytime

over 24 hrs fell four times no triggers or memories of doing so, speech slow slurred struttering and variable pitch driving erratic went to hospital, bloods, CT, and LP clear discharged but symptoms had not changed, went to different hospital MRI arranged awaiting results symptoms beginning to improve after 3 weeks but still present, short term memory poor

Hi Clare,

 

Wow, it sounds like things have really just exploded for you.  So many symptoms to develop suddenly.  Hopefully the MRI results might give you more information to go on regarding possible MS.

 

Because there is a history of MS in the family, I would think that the neurologist would be thorough in considering that diagnosis.  However, there could be other explanations for your symptoms.

 

Nobody else in my family has MS, but my mother has "CREST", lupus, and scleroderma.  I have an aunt with lupus and a cousin with rheumatoid arthritis.  Autoimmune diseases seem to run in this section of the family. 

 

Doesn't mean that you also will develop an autoimmune disease, but it certainly is more likely than someone whose family does not have some of these diseases.

 

Good luck, and please let us know what the MRI results show.  We're here for you while you are going through this.

Hi Lisa, thanks for answering so quickly. My MRI has come up clear, still having symptoms but slowly improving over 4 weeks. I have neurologist appointment on wed. Like you Rheumatoid arthritis also runs strongly in my family - sister and two cousins.

 

Will keep you in formed
