Hi Hollyk,

Tough question. When you feel something coming on, you just want it to be Memorex so it doesn't mean your MS is worse.  Sometimes it is true -- lucky you.  Other times, it may be the real thing, but it also could fully recover.  I went to a few favorite sources to get a clear answer.

According to WebMD, an exacerbation lasts at least 24 hours.  Julia Stachowiak says that a true relapse lasts a full 24 hours or more.  The National MS Society agrees -- an exacerbation, relapse, or flare up lasts at least 24 hours.

Regardless of the time period, anything that significantly interferes with your quality of life is not such a small issue.  Call it whatever name comes to mind.

Awww Cr*p!  What about the symptoms that never go away?  I guess it's like having "scars" from the relapses?  I'm starting to think that I have a progressive type because I never have gone back to "normal" and with each exacerbation I've gotten worse-it levels off or lessens some; but I never have gone back.  I've got permanent damage.

I've been really tired again for just over a week now and my cognitive is starting to fluctuate as is my memory.  All of those things are residules from the last exacerbations which although decreased a little; I never recovered.

The reason I ask is I'm supposed to contact my neuro at the MS Clinic the next exacerbation I have that lasts a week.  He wants to try this iv medication to see if it makes it better.  I just don't know if the severity of the "one" is worthy of it or not...
