I took Tysabri last year....my 2nd dose...i had a reaction....hives..beathing problems etc. They immediately stopped and placed me on Betaseron. I've been doing that a year...and recently devleoped new lesion in cerebellum that is affecting my balance...handwriting...numbness in mouth and on face. They are testing me for antibodies and considering retrying Tysabri. What are these antibodies? Do you know folks who've tried....stopped...retried and it was fine? Feeling yucky.....

Hello there

I have no experience with Tsyabri and I am not a doctor.  Nonethless I will try to find something helpful in the literature to tell you.

Sounds like you had an allergic reaction to Tsyabri?  I can understand why your doctor would be very cautious about trying this again.  What other choices do you have if you can't do the Tysabri?

Here is the official Tsyabri site to look at their information.

I also found an interesting forum thread where people taking Tsyabri discuss the issue of the antibody testing.  You might want to look at what they say.

On the MS Active Source site I found a direct quote about this antibody testing that may be pertinent to you:

"People taking Tysabri may develop neutralising antibodies. This is because Tysabri is a foreign protein and the body's immune system naturally produces antibodies against foreign proteins. Neutralising antibodies may reduce the effectiveness of Tysabri. In trials, 6% of patients developed "persistent antibodies" which means that they had to stop treatment with Tysabri."

It sounds entirely possible that they will tell you that you might not be able to take Tsyabri so I would prepare yourself for that.

I know a couple people who are using Tysabri or have used it, and I would be glad to hook you up with them so you can ask questions.  Just shoot me an email here and I would be glad to do that for you.

I wish you the best of luck with all of this and thank you for your question.

Hey Jam Jam

Just wanted to follow up with you to see what has happened in the latest month with you.  Did you go back to try Tsyabri again or are you still on the Betaseron?  How are your symptoms?

I am always curious to see what happens to people once they are at that crossroads of switching medications.

It would be great if you could come back to share your experience here.  I hope you are doing well and we would love to hear from you.
