Going back to work

Kathy
11/06/08

I need some advise, today I went and talk to my Boss about going back to work, I work for Wal-mart She knows I have MS She stated to me that my Doctor would have to give my 100% release before I could go back to work. that I could not have limations. I told her the only real problem I have is that when my body has the urge to go to the bathroom I better be there and if I was a Walmart greeter That would be hard I also told that I can't drive at night because my eyesight was not that good. she said then you better go full disabilty.because I could not come back to work unless I can work anytime.I need to work one because the house is driving me nuts. and for INS. I don't know what to do because my droctor said that he would not release me to go back and do what I did before. being a good greeter does not conces just saying hi to the people at are wall mart you have to push beggies if it rains or for any reason the beggies are wet you have to wipe them down, wash the windows and doors sweep the floors and you are not to sit down on your shift wish is 8 hr you get 2 15min breaks and one 1/2 lunch anyone got any answer for me I did ask her if I could be on the sale floor she said no. Ok know let me tell you also that after hurrican Katrina I help a store on the coast reopen I got off work in the morning and driving to the hotel I was concered still on the clock  when I got hit by a 18 wheeler the Lord took the wheel that day, anyways I had back surgery and all that and yes there is a lawsite on the 18 wheeler and walmart I just wanted to give you the whole picture of whats going on and yes I have a call to my Atty. What a mass.thanks for listening

Hey Kathy

So let me see if I understand your situation.  You want to go back to work but your doctor won't let you do the same work you had been doing which was to be a greeter?  And your boss is less than accomodating about all this.

Isn't there any other job your boss can give to you so that you can keep working there?

I guess my next question is...if you can't work this out with your boss...is there another job you would be interested in doing which would accomodate your needs?

In the perfect world bosses would be understanding and accomodate you.

I am going to give you several links to pursue.  One is the Americans with Disabilities home page.  I am wondering if someone there can tell you what your rights are.

The next is the number for the National MS Society.  You can call 1-800-344-4867 to get information from your local chapter.

Also here is a number for an organization called MS Friends.  You can receive peer support on the phone toll free.  Their number is 1-866-673-7436  and you can call any time of day or night any time during the week.

It is hard enough to have MS but to also have work woes...I am feeling for you.  I hope things work out in the end for you.

Thank you for your question.

Hi Kathy

Just checking up on you.  How is the work situation?  Was anything resolved between you and your boss?

I was just at Wall Mart and all the people who work there really do have a demanding job with being on one's feet all day.

I hope you are having a nice holiday and do come back to Health Central to update us on how you are doing.  Take care.
