Tuesday, May 05, 2009 Wake Me When It's Over asks

Q: Where in NC can someone get into a clinical trial or drug treatment program for free?

I have no health insurance and no income. I was turned down for disability. They say I haven't earned enough to receive benefits, but the last year I worked, 6 years ago, I earned too much money to be considered disabled...unbelievable. For the past twenty years I kept having times of remission, but now I am sick all the time and have not been able to work.

Now that I finally have a diagnosis, no income, and no insurance, I can't get treatment. Are there any MS specific programs or drug treatment plans in NC that anyone knows of?

Hi there,

Sherry has given you some excellent ideas on how to look for additional assistance other than Social Security Disability in your area.  You can find more information about Medicaid in North Carolina (click here).

Each of the drug companies who make the MS meds have programs to help patients who are uninsured or who have very high copays.  You can find contact information for each of them (click here).

Have you gone down to your local Social Services and applied for Medicaid it is better than nothing, I worked for them, and at least you may be able to get your meds and see your doctors since you have no income that helps some, I know how stupid that sounds.  Apply for FS to help with food I think that you will be able to get at least $150.00 per month, if you are unable to comein they will have to send someone to your home or the can do a phone interview, they have to do not let them shot you a ine, talk to them like you know what you are talking about, because they will try and get out of doing as much as they can, but also remember, you will catch more flies with honey also.  Wee if they are able to get you some help on your power bill and some help with your property taxes, just ask the questions, they can point you in the right directions.  Call the county tax office see what help they can offer, I hope this helps you some.  Sherry/smomdukesKiss
