yes swallowing does seem to be a problem for some with m.s. i think for most it's a choking problem that can be helped by thicker liquids. honey in my tea seemed to help a lot. my biggest problem seems to be forgetting how to swallow. have to sit there and think about it step by step to get it down-unless somebody makes me laugh then it is sprayed all over the place and i don't have to worry about swalling after allLaughing. i do empathize. it can be very frustrating. they to have tharapists who can offer  swallowing help.

I have not heard that think people withi MS usually have trouble swallowing but they do need to be sure to swallow food carefully. A few months ago I was eating a  peanut butter sandwich (in a hurry) and started to swallow but was suddenly choking and couldn't breathe at all.

I was revived in a NHS ambulance since I had collapsed unconscious after just a few seconds. I'm sure it's pretty rare, but if my wife hadn't called the hospital at once I would certainly have died. So I make sure I eat carefully now.

I have had it come and go.  Most often happens when I'm really tired.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2007.  I have problems with swallowing.  It's uncomfortable.  I choke sometimes.  It feels like theirs a blockage in my throat right now.

I have had MS for 30 years & recently have developed problems AFTER I swallow.  The food does NOT go down the passageway to my stomach.  It is very scary when food gets stuck AFTER I swallow.  I passed a Swallow Test last year at the local hospital.  The muscles in my chest that move the food to the stomach Do Not do their job.  I don't want to put up with this, so I swallow liquid after EVERY bite of food.  I give an "internet hug" to all those putting up with this crappy disease.
