Donor egg for invtro procedure was sucessful, now found out donor has Multiple Sclerosis - concerns
I am 21 weeks into my pregnancy and we just found out the egg donor has come down with MS. Is there a test we can do not or when baby is born to check on this?
How concerned should we be?
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! How exciting!
At this time there is no test which determines a person's likelihood to develop MS later in life. And, MS is not directly inherited. Read here and here what the NMSS says regarding genetics and MS.
Current research is showing that sufficient vitamin D intake and exposure to sunlight can help to limit a child's risk of developing MS. For your baby, supplementing with vitamin D drops might be one of the best things you can do to protect him/her from developing an autoimmune disease later in life.
Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy and again, congrats!
