Is perminant numbness common/rare?

Tomorrow I have been numb from the upper waist all the way to my toes for 3 weeks and a day.It isnt subsiding at all or improving. I have been to a neurologist.I was hospitalized for 5 days. Have Steroids by IV 5 times in a week. Is this a pretty bad sign that the numbness isnt going away at all?…
