Tuesday, April 07, 2009 Jeanne asks

Q: New symptoms after 15 years.

I have recently felt weakness and dizziness about once a day and my legs and arms hurt to the touch. Is this also my MS? It seems to be more profound lately.  I have had MS since 1995.  I am 57 years old and have gone through menopause, although I still get hot flashes and my symptoms seem worse then.  One more thing, at night my hands burn, tingle and hurt soooo bad.  I take Lyrica and Tramadol and helps some.  Could use some input.  Thank-you

Hi Jeanne,

Welcome.  You're symptoms are interesting.  If they were constant and had been going on for more than 24 hours, I would suspect a relapse in which case you should call your neurologist.  But the symptoms don't seem to be constant.

I'm not a doctor so can't guess whether this is your MS or not.  When I experienced pain you describe at night with your hands, it turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis.

So, perhaps this is a good time to consult your doctor who knows you best.  Just because you have MS doesn't mean that you might not develop other disorders.

Please let us know if this does turn out to be your MS.  I'm always interested in learning something new.  Thanks for your question.

A suggestion - rule out Raynaud's Phenonemon to be on the safe side.  I have this condition.
