Is it posible I may have early onset MS?
I am a 51 year old female. I broke my ankle severely and sprained the other one in Feb./09. Osteoarthritis has now set in and it is painful. I am a little concerned about MS and if it can be related. I seem to be walking off a few stairs, depth perception maybe? I feel somewhat off balance. I am finding I have more and more difficulty spitting out words, let alone sentences and can forget altogether what I wanted to say. My memory is getting worse. There have been a few times where I'm driving and I suddenly don't know where I am. I have the herpes virus and when it flares the skin on my face and head hurt. I feel sometimes dizzy and lose my footing. Last August my hands were tingling for about 3 weeks but then stopped altogether. I have always had problems with my bladder and I have been treated for bi-polar depression for 14 years now. One of the most hateful problems I have is an extremely loud ringing in my ears and then thud, thud, thud. In May I had a back fusion becuse of the osteoarthritis.I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. In my family I have 2 cousins with MS and 2 cousins and an Aunt with Lupus, (one deceased). Should I worry or just chalk it up to the broken ankle incident and getting old? Feeling very old and tired at 51, Linda X
Hi Linda X, sounds like you have a lot of things going on, but od not get discouraged, MS is not the end of the world, believe me I am 51 and I have had it all my life it did not show up until I was 44 and I had little signs all along but did not know it. That is the way that MS works sometimes. When it inally showed up I had lost all balance, I could not wear my heels anymore, and my knees were no longer any good, I had to use a cane. I made sure that they were cute canes
I am not a doctor, but I would see a Nuero and have an MRI done, and tell him my family history. I would not stress, I have bought stock in Poise pads because of bladder problems it's the MS. But see a Nuero. Good Luck! sherry/smomdukes

Linda,
It does sound like you have a lot going on right now. With relatives who have closely-related diseases (MS and Lupus), and with your concerns, it would be wise to begin taking notes. Start a symptom diary and document the what, when, how of your symptoms. Then approach your doctor who would be able to look at the information and determine what to do next.
Good luck. The road to a definite diagnosis can be long and frustrating. Hang in there.
