Q: I have been having spasms, twitching, and weakness in my left arm and leg. Cramping on the left side. Tingling down both legs. Urinary incontinence. What could be causing these symptoms. I am 28, F.

Symptoms started a year ago with urinary urgency. I thought I had a bladder infection but was checked several times, and no infection .... had a two week bout of tingling in my left forearm and hand a year ago ... in June i started having this tingling occur again in my left arm and now left leg, along with spasticity (feels like the muscle in my bicep is being pulled), twitching, weakness in the left arm and leg, troubling swallowing and chewing ..... I had an emg about a month into these symptoms and it was normal. had a spinal tap, it was normal. no one has done an MRI yet because i have a pacer device for gastroparesis..... Does this sound like MS?

HEY C_TEC DANIEL here and this could be due to other issues..eg. artery in your heart pressing against your pacer, mini-strokes or even MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS but we can only guess. Unless there are proper test to rule out or in the others we will not know. Ask your doc to check some of these others and perhaps there is a way to get an M.R.I with your pacer. I know that they have a led garment for your body to take X-RAYS of other parts. Untill then God bless and let us know what happens I am curious about the MRI and if can be done some how. bye for now!!!!!

Hey Daniel - Thanks for your response. I had a brain and C-spine CT and no evidence of stroke, tumor, etc seen. Neuro's eval of me they say is normal. My symptoms don't feel normal!! I have been pushing for an MRI for a few months now and no one wants to order one because it'll require surgery to explant the pacer I (which my GI surgeon already said he'd do, and HAS done a few times before) .....There is no way to get an MRI with a pacer, I've asked many docs, even the techs//nurses that run the MRI machines ....

Another question, if you know, can you have a normal neuro exam and still have MS?

Also, I'm wondering how common it is for people to have an initial MS symptom as how I presented? A lot of my complaints, from the start, revolved around muscle twitching, spasms, and weakness, all on the left side -- not the "typical" initial MS attacks that I have read about "numbness", "optic neuritis", some eye problems, etc ......

Thanks again for responding!

hey C_TEC DANIEL AGAIN and it is possible to have M.S and not have lesions. I had BACTERIAL MENENGITIS WHEN I was a baby and almost died. A couple of years later I was always feeling sick and weak, fatique. I had a bad attack when at a lake when I was twelve. I almost drowned two years later and no med evidence was found. I found I had M.S. 20 years later. Your lesions may be too small to see. I heard addisons can act like this too! I guess the only thing I can suggest is find out if anyone in your family has or has had M.S. This disease can be hereditary. May I suggest a endocronologist for blood work that other docs do not check for. I guess I sound like a broken record but maybe other test you have not taken can reveal something else. Perhaps a family member had something else. Well I hope they track down whatever is wrong with you soon!!  bye for now bless you bunches!!!
