Q: I recently was diagnosed with spinal cord injury with moderate quadriparesis

Recently diagnosed with spinal cord injury with moderate quadriparesis at C5-6, what treatments are avaiable to minimize neck pain and other painfull symptoms in left hand, arm; such as tingling, numbness, swelling of same. Some symptoms starting in right hand, and tingling started in toes & both feet and now all around abdomen?  I'm a 70 year old male, 9 yrs ago had a laminectomy at C3 to C7 to correct compression due to spinal stenosis, C5-6 discs compressing against spinal cord caused lesion/injury.  No pain before surgery, after surgery (last 9 years) have pain 24/7. Symptoms described started 14 months ago very insignificantly with tingling in finger tips of left hand and subsequetly progressing to other parts of limbs. Looking for some  relief treament that would stop or minimize the pain/symptoms which will provide some quality of life! Thank you, George

Hi George,

I am unfamiliar with pain management strategies for spinal cord injury.  We primarily talk about multiple sclerosis here.  However, we do have a member who has had substantial experience with spinal cord and pain issues.  She serves as a patient advocate for pain management and may have more knowledge to share with you than I.

Please send a message to Denise.  Perhaps she can steer you in the right direction.
