Lisa Emrich's Story

I am a professional musician who happens to live with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis while keeping a close eye on the monster which is depression. I did nothing to cause my chronic illnesses but seek to live well in spite of them.

In 2007, I began blogging at Brass and Ivory , focusing primarily on health policy issues and big pharma. By December I decided to start talking about multiple sclerosis and it’s effect on daily life. Subsequently a thriving community of MS Bloggers has been cultivated who collaborate on the bi-weekly Carnival of MS Bloggers .

I believe that, by sharing information and discussing ideas, experiences, and opinions, we can nurture and support each other on this journey together. With knowledge and support comes empowerment in the face of the unknown.

I have a B.M.E. in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma, a M.M. in Music Performance from Baylor University, and am a doctoral candidate in Music Literature and Brass Pedagogy at Indiana University.

I live in the Washington, D.C. area and teach out of my home music studio.

You can follow my posts on My RA Central and My Obesity Connection in addition to here on Multiple Sclerosis Central. In addition to my blog, Brass and Ivory , I vlog for the unbranded website How I Fight MS which is sponsored by EMD Serono.

Please know that I am not a paid consultant to the pharmaceutical or healthcare industries, but I occasionally get invited to speak within pharma companies or at industry conferences. For most of these invitations, I receive reimbursement for travel expenses. At any such time that I am offered speaking fees or honorariums, I plan to donate those fees to an MS-related charity.
