Blood test could predict MS severity

British researchers say a simple blood test may help them determine how severe a patient's newly diagnosed MS will be. The experimental blood test measures antibodies to the Epstein Barr Virus. Patients who had a higher level of antibodies were more likely to have a quicker progression of the disease. Experts say understanding how severe the MS is likely to be may help newly-diagnosed patients get the treatment that is best suited to their need. It would keep patients with less severe MS off of expensive and unnecessary treatments, while those whose MS is more severe could opt instead for daily injections that may slow the speed of the disease.  Read full story >
