Divorce rate is higher when women get sick

Women who receive a cancer or MS diagnosis are six times more likely to end up separated or divorced than a male spouse who receives the same diagnosis, a new study has found. The study confirmed earlier findings that found that the divorce rate among cancer patients in general was around 11 percent, but it jumped to 20.8 percent when the patient was a woman, compared to 2.9 percent when the man was ill. The study also found that couples who had been married longer were more likely to stay together, but the older a woman was the more likely the relationship would end.
