Advanced MRI May Help MS Diagnosis

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most commonly used method for diagnosing multiple sclerosis (MS), and studies have shown that the early diagnosis of MS can make a big difference in the effectiveness of MS drugs. But diagnostic imaging experts say conventional MRI technology may not be enough to detect the disease in its early stages. They recommend that more advanced MRI techniques such as MR spectroscopy (MRS), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and functional MRI (fMRI) are needed to complete the diagnostic picture in patients with MS.
