Rebif Withdrawal

Question:
I'm an MS patient on Rebif 22 mcg. Are there any problems I should expect when stopping the drug after two years?
Answer:
Rebif (also known as interferon beta-1a) is an immune system suppressant used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The exact way in which Rebif reduces the number of acute attacks is not well understood. Rebif is administered three times a week by subcutaneous (just under the skin) injections.
I am not aware of any particular problems with stopping the drug, other than the potential to have symptoms of multiple sclerosis flare up. However, the symptoms can still flare even if you stay on the medication.
