TV Show The Biggest Loser, Good or Bad?

By Jason Chiero, CPT, Health Guide Thursday, December 03, 2009
No one can argue the success of the popular television show "The Biggest Loser".  Most people would agree that the show can be very entertaining and inspiring for anyone who is trying to lose weight.  As a practicing Personal Trainer I can understand why someone would want to watch the show...

Jason,

Thank you SO much for posting this!

It is so important to have realistic weight loss and fitness expectations. Too often, people get discouraged and give up because they don't feel they are losing weight "fast enough." The fact is, weight loss is REALLY hard and take a lot of work. Pounds don't just shed off as fast as they are put on. Pace yourself and remember that ever little bit really does help.

Thanks again, Jason!

Watch it to be inspired by people who are working very hard to lose weight.

I completely agree with this - this is why my mother and I tune into the show. It is incredibly inspiring but neither of us are fooled by how much weight they lose and how quickly. I'm especially aware that two pounds a week is amazing progress and very healthy; it's what I strive for, but I don't freak out if I only lose one pound or even half a pound. As long as I'm losing, and doing it healthily, that's what matters!

Thanks for the post!
