Obesity and Checking Medical Records with Your Doctor

Phat in My 40's Health Guide August 24, 2010
  • At the beginning of this journey, I set out to keep an accurate record of my weight as it has changed from week-to-week.  I believe that I haven’t missed a single weigh-in besides the Sunday in June when I was on a cruise ship in the north Pacific Ocean.   One thing I had not though...

Excellent Job!  Your hard work is paying off.  That is fantastic!  I am so happy for you.  You are doing so well and you are taking the weight off the right way and being healthy.  This weight will stay off.  Not be like all those fad diets we have all tried and found the weight coming back with a vengance! ...

      Thanks Rena!

I am almost surprised that this has gone so smoothly, especially after so many years of just going up and up.  Welll...except for those two instances of losing a little bit which came back and then some.  Going slow is definitely the right thing to do and feels good right now.

I'm definitely going to keep posting. ...

I'm definitely going to keep posting.  It has helped to put it all out there.  I have a link to these posts automatically feed into Facebook and friends from high school read this stuff.  The additional support from them has also been very nice.  It surprised me, honestly.  At first I didn't want anybody knowing that I was doing this, but now I'm glad that I've put it all out there.

So how are you doing, Rena?  RA treating you well?  Life?  Thank you so much for your support.  It really does help.  Smile

The RA is actually now in remission after 3 years of different medicationsl.  I have been on Enbrel since the end of March and I went for an appointment with my Rheumy a couple of weeks ago and, based on the new RA criteria (excludes the feet all together, which bothers me a lot), my RA is in remission.  I am very, very happy...

I am very, very happy that the Enbrel is working and that I am feeling better.

I am now trying to focus greatly, on my weight and emotional eatting.  I am trying to stop and think about what my body really wants rather than what my brain wants, which is difficult to do, but it is making me feel better to be doing something positive.  Plus, is makes me feel better to be getting myself off all the sugar and eatting more fruit and veggies.  So far so good.

I am so prowd of you and so impressed by your courage.  To put all your posts and weight loss stuff on facebook and to allow high school friends and etc. into you struggles ad triumphs.  That is so, so brave of you!  I am so secrative about everything.  To hear that you have done this, is unbelievable and impressive to me at the same time.

I understand that it adds a level of pressure on to you as well.  And I also understand that it gives you more support from friends, family and etc.  I have issues with putting myself out here and just being human.  I think you are fabulous!!!  You are an inspiration.  I am going to try to do better about sharing and letting "the wall" down.

Keep up the good work and Thank You so much for sharing!

      Hi Vickie,

To be honest, I have lost the weight by being very conscious of what I am eating, when and how.  I started using "LostIt!" on my iPhone.  It is an application which I use to keep track of what I eat.  The database is rather large and if you don't find what you want, you can enter the nutritional values of foods directly into...

      Hi Vickie,

To be honest, I have lost the weight by being very conscious of what I am eating, when and how.  I started using "LostIt!" on my iPhone.  It is an application which I use to keep track of what I eat.  The database is rather large and if you don't find what you want, you can enter the nutritional values of foods directly into the application.  I have done this from the packaging of some foods.

Also, by entering my weight and some other measurements, the application calculates what my daily caloric needs would be in order to reach my goal.  I'm not exact with it, but I have been eating about 1500 calories/day since February.  Sometimes more, sometimes less.  I try to make sure that my food choices are healthy.

No specific diet, just conscious eating and keeping this public journal which helps to keep me motivated.  Being open and honest has helped too.  My roommates have been respectful of my needs so that has been very helpful.

For years, I laughed at the idea of the "eat less, move more" theory of weight loss.  However, it is true.  Go figure.  :)
