Interesting read, thanks for posting. Do you use these as part of your bariatric diet?
Hi and thanks so much for your post! I always appreciate your comments. Yes, I sometimes have green smoothies as a snack or a refreshing way to increase my water intake. However, I learned more about green smoothies while researching this article and so I am going to try them more frequently in my bariatric diet. Greens are winding down for the season at my CSA so I'd better hurry!!!
A word of caution to really watch what fruit you add to your green smoothie if you are a bariatric patient or diabetic. Too much natural sugar can cause dumping syndrome in gastric bypass patients, and can cause an insulin spike in diabetics. Since I am both diabetic and a gastric bypass patient, I am very careful here. Liquifying fruit increases the rapidity in which the sugar is absorbed into your body, although the fiber in the fruit and vegetables does slow that down a bit, it is not as slow as when one eats the fruit whole. I only add water -- not fruit juice -- to my green smoothies.
All good points - thank you!
