I have had several Obese friends who have had the Gastric Bypass surgery -very invasive surgery and long recovery times -restricted liquid diet for several months and you have to always watch what you eat because of chronic Diarrhea if you eat too much fatty stuff and Vomiting also if you eat ricE CAN CAUSE PAIN AND CONSTPATION. You have to eat alot of very small meals throught the day and night. You also have to go through counseling before this surgery. One out of people die from this surgery .The alternative is a safer procedure and less surgically invasive -would be Lap Banding-where a band is wrapped around the top part of your stomach so it allows only a small portion of food through at a time so you eat less becuz it takes longer for the food to pass through. SO IT IS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE FOR YOURSELF-THIS LAST PROCEDURE IS SAFER THAN THE FIRST -NO ONE HAS DIED FROM IT. Take Care and Good Luck in whatever you decide.
there are many ups and downs, either way it gos you still have to diet and whatch what you eat.you can become vitamin defficient and even make your self sick.i also hear that you have to take alot of stabalizeing pills for thing like this the thing that my mother has is lapband<is that it?>,it is not a serious surgery, its quick and fairly easy and very effective, today was my moms 100pnd loose mark! she got it last christmas! the only thing is you gotta whatch what you eat or it will make u sick and its cheaper then say gastric<cant spell, only 19,lol>or what ever else and its more effective.....idk know if it helps but yeah sry.

Hi Lisa, my daughter had this surgery two years ago, and she couldn't be happier. She wieghed 544 pounds at the time of her surgery, had high blood pressure and episodes of blacking out. Today she has lost a total of over 300 pounds, takes no medication and says she has never had so much energy. Also, there are great support groups available. She went online and found a group of surgery patients who donate their clothing. As you lose the weight - instead of buying clothes everytime you drop a size, these folks will meet up with you and give you their clothes that are too big for them. In turn you can join the website and donate your clothes that are too big for you now. If you have any specific questions, please let me know. catgranny
