Registed Dietitians the ideal healthcare providers to provide this counseling given that we have a strong background in couseling and health education, in addition to science based nutrition.  It is well known that there is a critical shortage of primary care doctors in many parts of the US - where would they find the time to do this additional work anyway?

Thanks for posting.  I just saw that the ADA is encouraging its members (dieticians as well as other health professionals like myself) to sign the ADA petition asking President Obama to include RDs in "obesity counseling" that medicare will approve.  I hope dieticians nationwide sign it!!
