I have asthma, high blood pressure, an enlarged heart, a hiatal hernia and too much weight.

As I said above that I have all these problems and know exercise would help me with all of them but my asthma is also exercise inducted at times.  I have a hard time staying with a program to loose weight and can use all the help I can get.  I know that when I am stressed I eat more and it also creates problems with my asthma.  I have never been allergy tested so only can guess by my reactions to what I am allergic to.  I have two dogs a chocolate lab and a chi/dauschaund sp.  and can't even walk them.  I so would like to be able to even just to see what is new in the neighborhood.  I have little money and no insurance so I have to pay out of pocket for meds. and can't afford a gym.  Any recommendations would help.  I do have free weights hand held and a treadmill which I can use limittedly.  Please help!

Richard Simmons has a great dvd called sit tight.  It's less thatn $20 and you can use it over and over again.  You do as much as you can do and try to increase your strength from there.  http://www.richardsimmons.com/j15/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=10&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=81

Everything counts! That is how I think of all the things I do each day such as spelling the alphabet with my feet when I first wake up laying in bed. When I stand in one place for even a few seconds I will tighten my ab muscles or maybe roll my shoulders. Do knee bends while you do dishes, fold towels with your arms straight out good posture and abs in. Get up and down real slow from the toilet, stop and hold muscles tight every few inches, park the car just a few more spaces farther from the store. So many ways to enhance and increase what you get out of everyday moments you have to do anyways.

Think posture and abs and go from there you'll be surprised how many opportunities to exercise you'll find and how easily it can become a habit. And it does help.

I also have a pedometer. Love it!! Helps me to walk more. Even just topping my last number of steps, by even four or five, some days that’s all it takes to boost my mood (which is so tied in to overall health!) Read online reviews and find one you'll be able to use, some of them suck and make you want to stomp them into a million little pieces. I have an Omron with a disk and USB cable to upload my data. It was easy to setup and I don't wear a belt but it still stays on my waistband when I walk.

Keep a food diary. It has really helped me. I started it to help get control of my anemia and found that I am eating less because I am more aware of portion control. I have to figure out how much is on my plate. Do I want to write down that I ate 1 cup of pasta or do I want to write that I had 2 cups? Makes it a bit easier to eat better and nibble a lot less. If I eat those treats set out in the break room I’ll have to write it down so a lot of times I pass.

I know it sounds corny; but attitude is everything. Smile; find the good in every situation, even when you feel so many obstacles around you, there is brightness in everyday if you want to see it.
