Surgery

At a Glance

Surgery can be an option for extreme cases of obesity.  Such a drastic action would be used to reduce the rate of heart problems, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or diabetes.  There are two major types of surgery associated with obesity: Restrictive Banding Procedures, where parts of the stomach is closed off in order to restrict the amount of food that can be consumed, and Malabsorption Bypass Procedures, in which parts of the intestine are bypassed, restricting the amount of food that can be absorbed.
