I am 33 years old. I am 5' 2-1/2" tall. I weigh 370 lbs. I have hypothyroidism (treated by levothyroxin). I have sleep apnea (I use a CPAP). I have a fibroid tumor. I have arthritis in my lower back. My blood pressure is great, my cholesterol is fine. I do not have diabetes. I am fairly active - I live in the country on a farm and take care of cattle, chickens, mow and weed eat the inner yard (that is about an acre). I like to go fishing and boating. I work full time. I clean house, do laundry. Walk every day - probably an average of 2 hours per day between work related, farm related and leisure related exercise.
I have literally tried everything. I joined a hospital health club and did water aerobics as well as used some of their land machines (low impact as I have arthritis in my lower back). I went to the health club and saw my physiologist everyday for 2 hours a day. I saw a dietician once a month. I provided her with spreadsheets on everything I ate on a daily basis. The exercise physiologist said that I was one of her most dedicated patients. The dietician said she'd never had a patient so throrough and so serious about losing weight. I stuck with it - I cried, I hurt, I pushed through it. In 5 months I lost 15 pounds. In the 6th month I gained back 5 pounds - although nothing, absolutely nothing had changed.
The physiologist and dietician re-evaluated the situation, compared notes... they both recommended gastric bypass because they said for whatever reason my body is fighting itself. No one seems to know why I don't seem to be able to lose weight - no matter what I do.
I believe there are other people out there who are like me - I know I can't be a freak. But yet - where's the help we need? Tied up in insurance claims and a procedure that on average costs more than my car did brand new.
