Q: Can lead in a persons blood stream affect one thyroid?

A few years ago i was shot with a pellet gun.Unfortunately due to where it was positioned, it made it almost impossible to remove. It stayed in my body for almost three years. A doctor finally surgerically removed it using some fancy scope. Is it possible that the lead that is in my blood stream could have an effect on my thyroid gland?
