Q: I need gastric bypass surgery.

I am looking for a doctor who will do a gastric bypass on me. I have been through all the tests and am a perfect candidate, but soonercare will not pay for it. I have a choctaw indian card and heard they pay for this surgery, but I am lost, can any one help?--please e-mail me at mirandawatson@att.net----I would also be willing to have the surgery performed by a teaching hospital or doctor for a documentary.  I am desperate!

I have great news for all of the many readers of My Obesity Connection on HealthCentral who write us asking if there is a free gastric bypass surgery. Yes, Virginia, there is a free weight-loss surgery!

Learn how to apply for the Alice Neff Grant in my sharepost, Free Weight-Loss Surgery Grant Now Available! Applications are being accepted August 15th.

Jessy, So many people find themselves in your position, unfortunately. That is why I was thrilled to find the grant for the free weight loss surgery. I suggest that you read my sharepost that explains all about the grant and see if it is something that you want to pursue. You also may want to read my sharepost "Is There A Free Gastric Bypass Surgery" that explains about Medicaid and Medicare coverage for weight loss surgery.

I wish you luck. I had this surgery in 2003 and my life since then is wonderful. If you are interested, you can read my other shareposts on my experience with gastric bypass surgery.

(((hugs)))

Hi. Whitney1,

I do hope some one out there can help you, I can only give you encouragement, you are doing the right thing, do not give up!! go online and research everything and everywhere, go on the Obestiy chat line, leave messages online with Drs. who have done the surgery, What state do you live in? Just please do not give up....

It will happen, if you can not get the RNY, get the LapBand.

I do hope you find your answer soon......... Obesitygirl57

My name is Tiffany. I too am without insurance and when I did have it they would never pay for gastric bypass.  So Im currently trying fundraise the money to have surgery. Maybe you could do this too.  Paypal has a way to fundraise with your paypal account. Maybe if we all helpo each other out we could get the surgery we all so desperatley need.

I weigh 280 have a bmi of 50 and have health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, tendonitis, vasculitis, gastritis, thyroid problems. I eat healthy I try to exercise but the tendonitis in both feet make this impossible.

Im so desperate that Im willing to try anything. And if that means I have to fundraise and take loans I will do that.

Please look at my website and read my story. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Every dollar raised puts me $1 dollar closer to my surgery.

Thank you

Tiffany
