Nowadays, however, half of childrens' waking hours are spent in school where they encounter:

- School lunches where pizza and french fries are defined as vegetables
- Fewer physical education classes -- only 33.3 percent of students now have daily P.E. classes compared to 41.6 percent in 1991
- Vending machines with high-calorie foods and beverages--often sponsored by Coke and Pepsi.
