The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Realize Adjustable Gastric Band for morbidly obese patients undergoing gastric banding surgery. The band is wrapped around the stomach to form two chambers so that patients can only eat about four ounces of food before feeling full. The band can then be adjusted by surgeons in order to determine the size of the stomach chamber.
