Obesity may be linked to pregnant mother's diet

Babies exposed to a fatty, high-calorie diet in the womb may be "pre-programmed" to a life of obesity and overeating, researchers say. A recent animal study suggests that a mother's fatty diet may encourage the production of brain proteins that stimulate appetite. Researchers found that rats born to mothers who ate a high-fat diet weighed more, ate more during their life, and entered puberty earlier than the animals whose mothers ate a balanced diet.
