A recent study has found that not getting enough sleep can significantly increase a child's chance of becoming overweight. Researchers found that children who got the least amount of sleep had a 92 percent higher risk of being overweight or obese compared to children with longer sleep duration. Children under 5 should sleep for 11 hours a day, children 5 to 10 should sleep for 10 hours per day, and children over age 10 should sleep at least 9 hours per day.
