According to a new study, orthopedic surgeons are less likely to recommend joint replacement surgery for patients who are morbidly obese, and researchers say the surgeons' unwillingness to do so is not justified. Investigators say their finding suggests that morbid obesity may be being used as a screening factor for joint replacement surgery, despite a lack of evidence that people who are this overweight fare worse with the surgery.
