Carrying extra weight around your waist is associated with a higher risk of diabetes and heart disease. But researchers say exercise may help reduce that risk--even if you don't change your diet. In an animal study, scientists found that obese mice who exercised and at a high-fat diet were not more likely to develop inflammatory-related conditions that the mice who exercised and ate a low-fat diet. The study's authors say this means that moderate exercise--around 30 minutes per day--may be enough to help prevent conditions like diabetes and heart disease, even if you are still overweight.
