Researchers in Great Britain say that eating soup--rather than a solid meal plus a drink--may help dieters lose weight. The secret lies in the way the stomach handles water. When a person eats food and drinks water, the stomach holds back the food so that it can begin being digested, but water passes straight through to the intestines, and it doesn't contribute to making you feel full. But when water and solids are blended together into a soup the whole mixture stays in the stomach, and people feel fuller for longer. Experts say when you feel full that means the body has slowed the production of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, and people tend to eat less overall which can lead to weight loss.
