Can I take pain medications if I am also taking Coumadin?

I am not on Coumadin, nor do I have heart problems. I am suffering greatly from osteoarthritis of the knee especially; but also ribs, hips and back. Can you suggest a pain medication, hopefully, one that is safe as possible for me to take. My Dr. (bless Him) has unsuccessfully given me scripts that have not done anything for the pain. I have had cortizone shots in each knee to no avail. It is hard to exercise; but manage stretching routine every day.
