l am a 56 year old woman who has been diagnozed with bi-lateral osteoarthritis two years ago. It hurts bad some days l cry, and exercises? forget it. So l checked out the YMCA, and l qualified for a scholarship, so l talked to a trainer there. l went to the pool exercises, and did the routing she set up for me for upper body strength. Sad to say, l let it lapse. Now l need to get back into it. The water was heaven on my joints. Lindun26
My name is Rebecca (a graduate student in California) and I am the ripe old age of 28 years old. I've always been very athletic- from figure skating to track & field, you can imagine how much my body has been through. Like many athletic individuals, I've had my share of aches and pains throughout the years. However, in the past year I've had terrible lower back and leg pain, so I consulted a pain managment specialist. I recieved an MRI, and finally last week I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis- by the neurologist. Today I recieved my first lumbar epidural (that wasn't a fun procedure, and the fact that the doctor along with his two assistants kept complimenting to me, "wow, you have a really nice, sun-tanned body" didn't really calm my nerves) and I'm hoping to recieve some relief in the next few days.
Since I'm pretty sure running 2 miles a day ( which I was doing 4 times a week up until 6 months ago) is out of the question, I am willing to consider Dr. Thompson's advice and try some swimming. Since I also just found this website, I'll keep regularly checking your information Dr. Thompson. I'll let you know how it all works for me.
Thanks,
Rebecca Leonard
