No, Butazolidin is no longer used in the U.S. for humans.

Butazolidin was one of the first NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs), the class of drugs that include Celebrex, Bextra, Advil and Aleve.
Today, it's generic, called phenylbutazone, is mostly used by veterinarians.

Check this link to find a list of other drugs commonly used to relieve osteoarthritis:

Talk to your doctor about finding one that will work best for you, since Butazolidin is no longer available.

Please let us know what you find!

It's really too bad that this medication was discontinued for human.  It seems to be used by veterinarians now (mostly for horses)  Ohhh...to be a horse and pain-free again.  I did take this medication  at one time until it was discontinued for use , and I suffered no side effects.  I was totally pain free.  In fact, during that time, I carried three babies to term and raised them through school.  Now, unfortunately, nothing stops the pain.My love for my family keeps me going.  I thank God for them every day.  Keep the FAITH.  Something else will be discovered  to replace this drug.

Sincerely,Hazel.

When a new doctor found out my Dad had been taking large doses of Butazoladine prescribed in 1948 by Mayo Clinic for arthritis for 25 year, he said, "They don't even give horses that much!"  His long time family doc in Tucson never questioned the drug dosage nor read up on it.  My Dad died from cirrhosis of the liver caused by the drug.  Yes, it gave him much relief for 20 years but he paid the price.

i am 62 years old and i have suffered from as ankylosing spondylitis for well over 40 years i was given butazolidin in the late 60,s i must admit it was like a miricle drug all symptoms disapeared plus the awful fatigue accompnying the disease. In fact it worked best on as symptoms of as more than any other ruematic disease.Unfortuenetly after a few months the druig started loseing its affectiveness and I was put on indocid the secondnsaid drug to be used on ruematic disorders it worked ok but not as effective as bz at the present time i am on meloxicam which seem to be working ok,but my ruematologist is thinking of puttin us on adulamab anti tnf treatment most of my spine has now fused and the pain is not as bad as when i was younger.I hope they can find a drug that will put this disease in to remmission or a cure as it is an awfull disease that starts in younger people when they are making there way in the world. It can also affect other parts of the body too eyes skin ibd etc.jim walker crosby liverpool england

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain this drug through a Canadian pharmacy or in Mexico.  I have chronic bursitis and get NO relief from any available meds in this country.
