is this medication still possible to acquire. i know after taking it for 5yrs., my blood count was helter skelter. but it worked better than anything currently available, besides the "bad stuff, or good stuff" depending on whether your still standing/alive or not!

No, Butazolidin is no longer used in the U.S. for humans.

Butazolidin was one of the first NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs), the class of drugs that include Celebrex, Bextra, Advil and Aleve.
Today, it's generic, called phenylbutazone, is mostly used by veterinarians.

Check this link to find a list of other drugs commonly used to relieve osteoarthritis:

Talk to your doctor about finding one that will work best for you, since Butazolidin is no longer available.

Please let us know what you find!

It's really too bad that this medication was discontinued for human.  It seems to be used by veterinarians now (mostly for horses)  Ohhh...to be a horse and pain-free again.  I did take this medication  at one time until it was discontinued for use , and I suffered no side effects.  I was totally pain free.  In fact, during that time, I carried three babies to term and raised them through school.  Now, unfortunately, nothing stops the pain.My love for my family keeps me going.  I thank God for them every day.  Keep the FAITH.  Something else will be discovered  to replace this drug.

    Sincerely,Hazel.

When a new doctor found out my Dad had been taking large doses of Butazoladine prescribed in 1948 by Mayo Clinic for arthritis for 25 year, he said, "They don't even give horses that much!"  His long time family doc in Tucson never questioned the drug dosage nor read up on it.  My Dad died from cirrhosis of the liver caused by the drug.  Yes, it gave him much relief for 20 years but he paid the price.

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain this drug through a Canadian pharmacy or in Mexico.  I have chronic bursitis and get NO relief from any available meds in this country.

The breakdown of cartilage in the knee can lead to bony protrusions called spurs and considerable joint pain.
