Snaps and cracks

By willib28 Monday, March 12, 2007

If anyone knows what is wrong with my joints, do tell...

It started a few years ago, I would wake up in the morning and my knees would lock to a position. But when I moved the knee inward (leaving the foot on the floor) the knee would 'snap' out. I have arthritus on both sides of my family and physiotherapists have offered the thought of possible osteoarthritus. I hope it isn't but you never know.

Both knees do it and specialists aren't sure what it is. They say the leg is very 'lax' and that my ligaments aren't as strong as they could be. They believe that the patella isn't big enough so the 'snap' is where the knee is moving out of/into place. It feels like i need to do it though, like when you stretch a muscle it becomes more flexible, the knee becomes more flexible when I snap it out.

Oh also, my elbows tend to lock and when THEY snap out its an automatic reflex that hurts, alot.

All very confusing I know, but if anyone could bear any light that would be great. I think I'm broken!

Hi Will.  Thanks for your question--I'm passing it along to Dr. Krant, our Osteoarthritis Expert on the site.  His answer will appear in a future SharePost of his; I'll let you know when it is posted.
