Both Celebrex and Ibuprofen are anti-inflammatory medications, so you cannot take them together at the same time. When converting from one to the other, I would suggest a one week wash-out period during which time you take neither one. This will allow the body to adjust and you to decide whether or not you really need to take an anti-inflammatory medication at all.
Instead of taking pills with a high risk of causing problems if taken for long periods of time, consider trying an anti-inflammatory diet. Improved nutrition can really help improve your body's ability to control inflammation and pain naturally.

Hi Dr. Christina,
i am currently taking Celebrex for 3 days for nerve damage after vein surgery, and so far,it has done absolutely nothing for my stabbing/shooting pain down into my foot. Ibuprofen has helped much better before i switched to Celebrex (i switched because i was worried about my stomach and thought a NSAID with COX2 might be better), but now that Celebrex is not working, i would like to switch back to Ibuprofen so i can go back to work. I can't afford to wait until Celebrex kicks in, and who knows, i might never get me the relieve i need to sleep and work. Therefore i have the same question as the person above: If i can't wait for weeks to switch, what complications do i have to worry about if i switch tomorrow to Advil (800mg 2x day)?
