Q: my husband is bowlegged in his late 50's and already had knee surgery followed by injections but is contemplating total knee surgery. is this good for him and what are the risks, he is overweight

he is concerned about the risk and his ability to live pain free

Fewer and fewer surgeons are willing to put a new knee in someone under the age of 65 especially one who is over weight. The risk is that the implant will fail within 10 to 15 years especially with the extra weight. And revisions are even worst in terms of longevity and surgical risks. Yes, these implants are not designed to last 20 to 30 years. So I am betting your husband will need to maximize his use of medications like Celebrex, use a cane, loss weight with Anti-Inflammatory Diet and wear good shoes to get by for another 7 to 8 years.
