Are you sure it was an injection? Because there is a treatment called Capsaicin, which is a component of hot red peppers used in a pain-relieving skin cream called Zostrix. Capsaicin seems to reduce a substance in the body, known as substance P, which contributes both to inflammation and the delivery of pain impulses from the central nervous system, according to our encyclopedia. A small amount of capsaicin must be applied to the area of inflammation about four times a day. Pain relief usually begins within 1 to 2 weeks.

It is possible to get an injection of capsaicin. I don't know if the injection has a specific name.
