I was diagnosed with OA caused by my parachute jumping accident. Is that the same as normal OA?

My accident happened years ago, I had an open fracture on my left femur, had many surgeries, and was in a coma for a week. I have pain all over my body throughout my bones, not just my joints. The pain has worsen rapidly for the past few years. I am taking Hydromorph Contin, Hydromorphone Hydrochloride, Nortriptyline and extra-strength Advil. Should I follow the same diet/treatment as a normal OA?

There isn't necessarily a "normal" treatment for osteoarthritis. Treatment depends on the person's condition, pain and needs. Normal for you would be whatever you and your doctor decide will help you best to continue doing everything you need and want to do every day.

Osteoarthritis pain is not really a disease of old age. Scientists now say it's the result of injury or trauma, birth defects and even metabolic disorders and obesity. So, your arthritis isn't different from "normal" arthritis. OA can occur after an injury and is pretty much the same as arthritis that may happen when you get old.

Osteoarthritis is typically treated with painkillers, anti-inflammatory medicine and/or exercise to stengthen the muscles and ligaments around the joints. You may benefit from all of these, but work closely with your doctors to find what works for you (especially since your pain is not in your joints only).

I hope this helps! Good luck,

The breakdown of cartilage in the knee can lead to bony protrusions called spurs and considerable joint pain.
